Apocalyptica Brings Cello-Driven Metal to Life in Minneapolis

Opening for Apocalyptica, guitarist Nita Strauss delivered an adrenaline-fueled set, showcasing her mastery of guitar shredding and electrifying stage presence. Known for her work with Alice Cooper and as a solo artist, Strauss has earned a reputation as one of the most prominent female guitarists in the rock and metal scene. Midway through her set, she was joined by vocalist Kasey Karlsen of Deadlands, whose powerful vocals added an extra layer of intensity, elevating the performance to the next level.

As the cellists took the stage, illuminated by dramatic lighting, they launched into their signature renditions of Metallica classics, opening with Ride The Lightning. Their ability to recreate Metallica’s iconic riffs with nothing but cellos and percussion was nothing short of mesmerizing, proving that heavy metal’s energy transcends traditional instrumentation.

Apocalyptica first covered Metallica in 1996 with their debut album Plays Metallica by Four Cellos. Now, 29 years later, they continue to redefine the boundaries of symphonic metal. The setlist featured a perfect mix of Metallica classics, including Master of Puppets, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and Nothing Else Matters, each reimagined with intricate string arrangements that brought a fresh yet faithful perspective to these legendary songs. Apocalyptica also paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Cliff Burton with a powerful performance of The Call of Ktulu, honoring the bassist’s enduring influence on both Metallica and the world of heavy metal.

For fans of both classical and metal music, an Apocalyptica concert is an experience like no other. Their ability to push the limits of their instruments and deliver such an intense, emotionally charged performance makes them a must-see act. If you have the chance to catch them on this tour, don’t miss it—you won’t regret it.
