If you’re someone who wasn’t around the age of twelve and under in 2009, you may have missed Gen Z’s version of the Monkees, Big Time Rush. For those of you who don’t know who the Monkees are, they’re the OG made-for-TV band, having their own show in the 1966s, much like the Naked Brothers Band in 2007 and most presently in 2023, Daisy Jones and the Six. While you can compare made-for-TV bands up the wazoo, why pit two beautiful queens against each other? The Monkees have inadvertently paved the way for BTR to have yet another massive tour this year, and it may be coming to a city near you.
This tour is featuring fellow Nickelodeon alum MAX, as well as rising star JAX which will make for a memorable night for anyone, both artists being powerhouses in their own right. Whether you’re going for nostalgia purposes, which is a valid reason because BTR has an impressive catalog to pull from (which is what I’m doing as I write this), or you’re a new fan who’s only just discovered them, there’s going to be something for everyone and that’s what so special about a BTR show. Everyone there is out to have a good time.
While I personally missed out on last year’s tour, everyone I have ever talked to about BTR’s shows and their performances has nothing but incredible things to say about it. You can tell that BTR loves what they do and it shows, especially in their newest song Can’t Get Enough. No longer confined to the TV band stereotype, Can’t Get Enough is a much more mature-sounding BTR, paying homage to the disco era. It’s much easier to make the music Big Time Rush was always meant to, now that the majority of their fanbase are now adults, which includes me AND my brother.

Fun fact about my brother, he once watched Big Time Rush four times in succession one winter. I, too, was a tad worried about his mental health. I have also forced my friends who were just a tad too old for Big Time Rush to watch the show with varying degrees of success.
But then again, great art is unappreciated in its time.
Big Time Rush is one of those things that I got to and will continue to share with my brother, which is why they hold such a special place in my heart. I can’t wait to share this with him when they stop in our city this summer.
